Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA)

1. Introduction
This manual is published in terms of Section 14 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA). PAIA gives effect to the constitutional right of access to any information held by a public or private body that is required for the exercise or protection of any rights.

3. Guide on How to Use PAIA
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has published a guide on how to use PAIA. This guide is available in all official languages and can be obtained from:

5. Records That Cannot Be Disclosed
In terms of Section 36 of PAIA, we may refuse access to records that:
- Are subject to legal professional privilege
- Contain confidential commercial information
- Would compromise the privacy of third parties
- Are subject to intellectual property rights
- Would compromise security or law enforcement
6. How to Request Information
To request access to information under PAIA:
- Complete the PAIA request form (available from the Information Regulator)
- Submit the form to our Information Officer at zander@veloxai.co.za
- Include proof of payment of the prescribed fee (if applicable)
- Specify the records requested with sufficient detail
7. Fees
The following fees apply to PAIA requests:
- Request fee: R0 (no fee for the first request)
- Access fee: As prescribed by the Information Regulator
- Photocopying: R1.10 per page
- Electronic copy: R0 (if available electronically)
8. Processing Time
We will respond to your request within 30 days of receipt. If the request requires extensive search or consultation, this period may be extended by a further 30 days with written notice.
9. Appeal Process
If your request is refused or you are dissatisfied with the response:
- You may lodge an internal appeal with our Information Officer within 60 days
- If still dissatisfied, you may apply to a court for relief
- You may also complain to the Information Regulator
